Exploring Ethics in Pathology: Does It Matter Where We Come From?
The 37th European Congress of Pathology (ECP 2025), held September 6–10 at the Austria Center Vienna, brought together over 5,000 professionals from around the world to explore the theme “Tradition Meets Future.” This year’s congress reaffirmed Vienna’s historic and contemporary significance in pathology, offering a rich program of keynote lectures, symposia, and interactive sessions that reflected the dynamic evolution of the field.
Among the standout sessions was SPEC-01, a Joint Special Session hosted by the European Society of Pathology (ESP) and the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), titled:
“Ethics in Pathology – Does It Matter Where We Come From?”
Held on Sunday, September 7, this session invited attendees to reflect on the ethical dimensions of pathology practice across diverse cultural and geopolitical contexts. As pathology increasingly intersects with global health, digital diagnostics, and personalized medicine, the session posed timely questions:
