Bursary Applications Have Now Closed

If you have applied for a bursary, notifications of outcomes will be sent via email by June 15th.

Bursaries have been established to support for early career pathologists from under-served countries to attend International Congresses of the IAP. This has been supported by the Education Committee as well as by the many IAP Divisions, including USCAP.

    Overview

    The IAP offers bursaries to support trainees and early‑career pathologists from underserved countries in attending the International Congresses of the IAP. Funding is provided by the IAP Education Committee and multiple IAP Divisions.

    Application Process

    Step 1: Submit Your Abstract
    Submit your abstract through the Congress website before applying for a bursary. You will not be able to submit a bursary application without completing this step. The Congress website can be found here

    Step 2: Complete the Bursary Application
    After receiving your abstract ID(s), complete the online application form.

    Eligibility Criteria
    • Applicants must be from underserved countries based on economic standing recognized by World Bank Rankings as either lower-middle income and low income (reference publication). Please contact info@iapcentral.org with questions.
    • Preference is given to trainees or pathologists with fewer than 5 years of practice.
    • A limited number of Senior Pathologist Bursaries may be awarded.
    • Applicants must submit an abstract via the Congress website.
    • Abstract acceptance as a presenting author is required.
    Bursary Coverage
    • Registration for the IAP 2026 Congress
    • Contributions toward travel and hotel accommodation in Fukuoka
    Important Notes:
    • Only complete applications will be considered.
    • You must provide your abstract number(s) and title(s).
    • Bursary decisions will be communicated after abstract acceptance. 
    Conditions of Award
    • Submit a brief post‑Congress report.
    • Share Congress educational materials with colleagues in your home country.
    • Comply with the Financial Action Task Force framework.

    Bursaries Sponsored by Divisions and Assemblies

    Bursaries are available to support young pathologists to attend Division-sponsored congresses and symposiums. Rules for eligibility varies, depending on the Division. Currently, there are no bursaries available. Check back here regularly for updates from Divisions on bursaries available.
