The Bid Process:

Divisions interested in hosting a future IAP Congress are invited to submit a formal bid proposal to the IAP Secretary six years prior to the proposed event. The bid proposal must follow the bid checklist provided in order of the items on the list.

Eligible bids are presented to the International Council at the next biennial Congress. All bids from European based Divisions should be coordinated in advance with the European Society of Pathology in terms of dates.  We will begin accepting bids for the 2032 IAP Congress in January 2026. 

During the Congress, each bidding Division delivers a 15‑minute presentation to the International Council. When multiple bids are received, the order of presentation is determined by lottery. Divisions should coordinate with the IAP Secretary to confirm room arrangements and audiovisual requirements.

Following all presentations, the International Council selects the host venue through a secret ballot. If more than two bids are under consideration, successive rounds of voting are conducted until one Division achieves an absolute majority.

The leading venue then proceeds to a site visit conducted by at least two IAP officers. Hosts are responsible for travel and accommodation expenses associated with this visit. A final determination is made after the site visit report is reviewed.
